A Long Weekend In Dinkelsbuhl

Tim had to attend a training session for two days in Dinkelsbühl, which is one of Germany's most beautiful medieval towns that is located along the Romantische Strasse (Romantic Road -describes the 350 km of road between Wüzburg and Füssen in southern Germany, linking a number of picturesque towns and castles. In medieval times it was a trade route that connected the center of Germany with the south).  Sooooo, we added on another two days and had time to bike and wander around this gorgeous little town.

What is wonderful about Dinkelsbühl is that it remained totally unscathed by both world wars.  This historic old town is one of Europe’s most important cultural monument.

Dinkelsbühl is still surrounded by the old medieval walls and towers. The image of this town is very typical for a German town of the 15th to early 17th century.

Some pictures of the town....

Every corner you went around, beautifully kept houses....

and shops...

You will notice that all the shop signs are painted with script.
The shops are not allowed to use their trademark signs in Dinkelsbühl.

Everything was just picture perfect.

St. George's Minster is a beautiful church of the gothic style built in the late15th century.

Not so amazing from the outside...

...but beautiful on the inside.

For the first two nights we stayed in a great little apartment on the south side of town.  As Tim was attending an adidas training session, we moved to a lovely hotel, Hezelhof Hotel right in the old town for the second two nights.  It was gorgeous....

We took our bikes with us and went biking on the Friday, but it poured and poured and poured with rain.  We were out for about 1.5 hrs and then had to head back to the hotel as it was just too wet to go any further.  Sunday was gorgeous, and, as nothing is open we headed out north of the town and cycled for a couple of hours in the countryside.

If you ever get a chance to come to Germany, be sure to put Dinkelsbühl on your list!!!
