It
has been some time since we have posted on our blog but we have been spending a
considerable amount of time, over the past four months, in Canada dealing with
Jayne's Mum's failing health. Sadly, we announce that Jayne's Mum, Ena
Young, passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospice on Sunday May 5, 2013 in
the early hours of the morning.
Ena has been the matriarch of our family and was one of those special people who touched the lives of most people that she met. She had a real zest for life that continually surprised all of those who interacted with her both personally and professionally. She managed to live to the age of 94 and kept fit for virtually all of those years. She was born in the Netherlands and moved, as a child, to England with her family. During her early school years her family often took vacations abroad, which started a life long love for travel. She was schooled in Lancashire, St. Andrews, Scotland and in Klosters and Lake Geneva, Switzerland.
During WWII she was a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) and spent her time in Scotland and in the south of England. After the war she worked in England and spent two wonderful years travelling and working in Australia. Upon returning from Australia Ena met Jayne's Dad, Brian Young and they married in 1957. Immediately after their honeymoon on ‘the continent’ they set sail for Canada, where they forged a life long love for their new country and new family. When they weren't travelling the world you could always find them enjoying and relaxing at the cottage on T-Lake.
When we speak of Ena's zest for life, we always remember the things that others found so incredible, such as water skiing on her 80th birthday, or riding in the back of a pick up truck down the Alaska Highway, or leaving Beijing’s Tiananmen Square just a few days before the massacre in 1989. She constantly encouraged both friends and family to see the world and to enjoy and cherish the important things in life. In her last days she was still imparting her wisdom and the following is a quote from her:
"Spread your wings and you will have some wonderful experiences"
She has not only been a wonderful Mum but a best friend. We will always remember her positive attitude towards life while we attempt to keep up the level of curiosity for the world that she instilled in us.

But
as we settle down back here in Germany
we are starting to realize the impact of the loss of Jayne’s Mum. We will always think of her as we travel
around the world.
Stay
tuned as we spread our wings and get back to travelling Europe. Our next trip is with friends, in June, where
we have rented a Villa in Provence, France and plan
to cycle the region. Okay, there just might be some time for food and wine.
We love you Mum!!!!
